Off Cannes
The islands of Lérins are a peaceful destination to enjoy sunbathing, swimming, picnics, or simply to the walk in a protected nature. This haven of peace, situated off the town of Cannes (15 minute crossing), includes two islands, the island of St Honorat, owned by the monks since the end of IV ème century and dedicated to monastic life and the island of Ste Marguerite, known especially for its Royal Fort where the man in the iron mask was imprisoned.
A NATURE FRAGILE BUT PROTECTED
Besides the historic treasures and the luxuriant forests, the islands of Lérins hide a sea bed very rich in fauna and in flora. Yet this nature is fragile and numerous precautions are taken to protect it. The National Office of Forestry watches over the vegetation which blooms in this privileged climate. On the West of the island Marguerite, the pond of Batéguier contains a bird sanctuary, a real shelter for many species of migrating birds.
The islands of Lérins will make you forget the busy coast and will offer you a moment of absolute relaxation. From April, four departures from Juan les Pins for St Marguerite and from Cannes, departures are all year round for both islands. |
